Botanic Gardens, Urangan

The Botanic Gardens are situated on a 26-hectare property which was established to display plants of the Wide Bay and Sandy Straits regions.

Natural bushes, formal gardens and wetlands intermingle to provide an environmental delight.

Areas of interest include: the Japanese Bridge, Bush Tucker Garden, Aboriginal Bush Tucker Garden and the Woodland/Wetlands area.

Numerous facilities include seating, toilets, tables, shelters and BBQs. 

Birds and turtles have made the lagoon their home and the Bush Chapel provides an open air cathedral surrounded by rainforest trees for your special day.

Orchid House, Urangan

Located within the Hervey Bay Botanic Gardens, the Orchid House was opened in 2001 and is home to a collection of around 20,000 orchids donated by a local resident.  The major seasonal flower displays occur in spring (September - October) and autumn (February - March) with smaller displays every month. 

There is an small entry fee which includes coffee/tea. Small gifts and souvenirs can be purchased. Open Mondays and Fridays from 8.30am to 3.45pm and Tuesdays to Thursdays from 10am to 3.30pm.

Dayman Park, Urangan

Located at the end of Dayman Street, Urangan, this park offers BBQ and picnic facilities, a playground with climbing net and plenty of space to kick a ball around.  Memorials to Matthew Flinders, who landed at Dayman Point in 1799, and the WWII special forces Z-Force are situated in Dayman Park.  Z-Force trained in the Bay before infiltrating Singapore Harbour in an old Japanese fish carrier called Krait.

Dayman Park offers great views of Fraser Island, the marina and the Great Sandy Strait.  Within the park is a hall available for hire for private functions.  Contact 4125 9700 for booking enquiries.

Seafront Oval All Abilities Playground, Pialba

The Seafront All Abilities Playground is one of 16 developed as part of the state government’s Queensland All Abilities Playground Project – enabling participation in play.

Designed by play space designer Ric McConaghy, the playground features a wide variety of accessible, inclusive play equipment and experiences, including a custom-built shipwreck, a swirling maze and swings to suit all abilities.

The 4000-square-metre site is set on the edge of Pialba Beach. It also offers a sheltered barbecue, accessible toilet facilities, a car park with disabled bays and decorative pathways and gardens throughout.

Pines Park, Pialba

Named after the cypress pines within the park, the Pines is located at the end of Beach Road on the Esplanade.  Close to the CBD, the Pines offers a great place to eat lunch, have a BBQ with the family and let the kids play in the playground, all with a fantastic outlook over Hervey Bay.

Pier Park, Urangan

This park is a perfect accompaniment to the iconic Urangan Pier.  A great place to walk off a meal from one of the nearby restaurants, the park has been landscaped with elements of the natural environment in mind and has become a backdrop for public artworks.  Toilets, seating, shelters and shade are available.

Ernie Organ Park, Torquay

Referred to by the locals as the 'train' park, Organ Park lets you enjoy the best of both worlds at Organ Park - younger kids can have fun on the play train and other playground equipment while the adults can stretch out and relax in the shaded grassed areas.

Alternatively, you can walk along the boardwalk or have a swim in the ocean.  Facilities include: BBQ, tables and seating.

ESA Park, Point Vernon

Located between Aplin and Flinders Streets on the Esplanade, this park contains toilet and BBQ facilities and plenty of off-street parking with easy access to the beach and an exciting wonderland in the tidal rock pools.  The playground is protected from the road so it is a great place for parents, and grandparents, to relax as their children play.

ESA Park features turtle friendly lighting to protect the small but established turtle rookery adjacent to the park.  Turtles are attracted by light, so to avoid having baby turtles head towards the playground instead of the ocean, these specially designed lights shine a warm beam that is sheltered from the beach.

Scarness Foreshore Park, Scarness

Located at the end of Queens Road on the Esplanade and close to cafes and restaurants, Scarness Park is a popular choice for many a community event.  A raised and covered stage area makes it the perfect venue for Sunday music in the Park.  There is a range of play equipment for children of diverse age groups, picnic tables, seating, shade and BBQ facilities.

Apex Park, Pialba

Fully fenced which provides protection from the busy Esplanade road, Apex Park is home of the pirate ship and climbing whale.  

With shade, other playground equipment, toilets and picnic tables, this park will keep the kids entertained for a while.  

Hervey Bay Skate Park, Pialba

Pialba is home of the Hervey Bay Skate Park in Torquay Road, which has been designed to cater for beginners to advanced enthusiasts.  A hotspot for the youth, facilities include ramps, shade, seating and toilets. 

Arkarra Lagoons and Tea Garden

Walk along timber boardwalks through one of the last remaining remnants of littoral vine forest, watch the ducks, fish and turtles in the lagoons.  Arkarra is located at Panorama Drive, Dundowran.

Lions Park, Burrum Heads

Home of the Burrum Heads Easter Fishing Classic, this shaded park situated at the end of Burrum Street contains plenty of parking, toilet, fishing cleaning tables, BBQ and picnic facilities and access to the mouth of the Burrum River.

Howard Skate Park, Howard

Located in Steley Street, Howard, this parks offers a skate ramp for the thrill seeker and smaller playground areas for kids who want to "chill".  The park has toilets, BBQ facilities and is adjacent to the Howard oval and Burrum District Community Centre.
